The Department of Energy (DOE) commends all the stakeholders who provided their inputs and actively participated in the Consultative Dialogue concerning Republic Act No. 9136, otherwise known as the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001.

The DOE dialogue on “Ensuring Security of Electricity Supply at a Reasonable Price,” gave each sector representative a platform to present and discuss their findings and recommendations about the issues concerning the policy framework and execution of provisions in the EPIRA. Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said “we are grateful for the active participation of all concerned sectors during the course of consultations.”

Representatives from the consumer sector, business sector, academe, labor groups, non-government organizations, industry players (power generation companies, electricity suppliers, distribution utilities), as well as officials from the DOE and the rest of the energy family discussed on the law and the precepts governing the local power industry in the said dialogue held on 18 February 2014 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Prior to the event, the DOE also conducted regional FGDs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

In line with the DOE’s transparency efforts, Secretary Petilla emphasized that all inputs and insights will be taken into consideration to create policies that are responsive to the changing needs of the power industry and the Filipino people. The complete documentation of the Consultative Dialogue including the series of Focused Group Discussions will be transmitted to both Houses of Congress and Office of the President by March.  In the meantime, all *materials used during the Consultative Dialogue are now posted in the DOE website (www.doe.gov.ph) for reference and comments.

Alongside with all energy stakeholders, the DOE is committed to enhance its efforts in the formulation and implementation of sound policies in the energy sector for the benefit of the public at large.
