Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport (NGVPPT)

In October 16, 2002, the government launched its Natural Gas Vehicle Program for Public Transport (NGVPPT) to test the commercial viability of compressed natural gas (CNG) for transport. The program envisioned a 7-year CNG Pilot Project where seven bus operators were accredited as participants to the program.

To date, a total of 41 compressed natural gas (CNG) buses are plying the Batangas - Laguna - Metro Manila routes. A total of 61 units now in-country, where the remaining 20 units are undergoing safety inspection by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and awaiting for the release of its franchise. The CNG mother & daughter stations in Batangas and in Mamplasan South Luzon Expressway, Biñan, Laguna, respectively, provide the CNG supply for these buses using a virtual pipeline system to transport CNG from the mother to the daughter station. Commercial operation of the NGVPPT pilot phase was last April 2008.
