(Taguig City) The Department of Energy (DOE) was informed by the Malampaya Consortium of the adjustment in the maintenance schedule of the Malampaya Platform for two days later from its original schedule due to the imminence of Typhoon Yolanda in the country.
Based on the information relayed by the Malampaya Consortium, they took into consideration the safety of the people who will be working offshore as the said typhoon approaches. In effect, the new schedule of the Malampaya Scheduled Maintenance will now be from 11 November 2013 to 10 December 2013. It was originally scheduled to start on 09 November and last until 08 December 2013.
During the period of the Malampaya Platform maintenance, the DOE will continue to coordinate with the Malampaya Consortium, power generation companies, National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, and the Manila Electric Company to ensure adequate and reliable supply of power. The DOE also notes the importance of maintaining the dependability of the platform in producing natural gas.
The DOE reiterates to all power consumers to practice energy efficiency measures to help mitigate the impact on power supply and price in Luzon.
