ADVISORY: DOE Energy Safety Tips During Calamities (Released on 12 February 2017)

In the aftermath of the recent earthquake in Surigao and nearby environs as well as the typhoons that regularly hit the Philippines, the Department of Energy (DOE) has come up with suggested power tips to ensure the safety of all the people, households and facilities.

What needs to be done during calamities:

For households and buildings

  • Turn off main switch or circuit breaker.
  • Unplug electrical appliances and devices.
  • Install brackets or safety harness for appliances and furniture (e.g., cabinets)

For power plants especially control rooms

  • Install brackets for control panels, monitors, CPUs, servers and keyboards

The practice help ensure that control rooms remain intact even during earthquake and ready to resume operation soonest.
