DOE Holds Energy Efficiency Awards for 2020 NECM

TAGUIG CITY –  As part of the activities for the 2020 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM), the Department of Energy (DOE), through its Energy Utilization Management Bureau, held the virtual Energy Efficiency Awards (EEA) on 7 December 2020.

The EEA was organized in accordance with the provisions of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act, which called for the creation of non-fiscal incentives for establishments that will implement, or are implementing energy efficiency projects.

“Energy efficiency has played a major role in our country's quest for self-sustainability and reduced carbon footprint. Since the law was signed over a year ago by President Duterte, the DOE has been aggressive in the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation as a national way of life,” Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said.

“I congratulate this year’s awardees for a job well done. May you all serve as role models for other establishments to pursue the path to energy efficiency and conservation for a sustainable and greener Philippines,” Secretary Cusi added.

The Energy Efficiency Green Building Awards (EEGBA) were conferred upon members of the commercial building sector that had successfully implemented EE&C measures in the design, construction, and operation of their establishments. Nominees were chosen based on their technical submissions, along with a green building certification issued either by the Philippine Green Building Council's BERDE rating system, the Philippine Green Building Initiative's GREEEN Certification rating system, or the United States' Green Building Council's  LEED rating system, all of which are voluntary rating systems undertaken by entities to earn any or all of these certifications.

Hyundai's Cebu South Dealership and Botanika Nature Residences received Outstanding Awards for the small and medium building category. For the large building category, Arthaland Century Pacific Tower; One/Neo, Two/Neo, Three/Neo, Five/Neo, Six/Neo, Seven/Neo; Hyundai Logistic Centre; Arya Residences; Estancia; and the National Museum of Natural History were among the awardees.

A total of five awardees will be recommended by the DOE to the ASEAN Energy Awards in 2021 for the Green Building Categories 1 and 2. Representing the country for Category 1 are Hyundai Cebu South Dealership and Botanika Nature Residences, and for Category 2 will be Arthaland Century Pacific Tower, seven/NEO of the N-Park Properties, Inc., and the Hyundai Logistics Center.

Similarly, government agencies' EE&C efforts were recognized through the Government Energy Management Program Awards. These awards were given to government entities that managed to save at least 10% on electricity and fuel consumption by adopting and implementing EE&C policies. The five awardees are the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, the National Transmission Corporation, National Electrification Administration, National Power Corporation, and Development Academy of the Philippines.
