(Taguig City). The Department of Energy (DOE) reports that at 1:46 p.m. today (06 September 2016), Line 1 and Line 2 of the Makban-Batangas 230kV transmission line tripped, resulting in the isolation of the following large power plants with a total capacity of 1,030 MW:
1. San Lorenzo (2x255 MW)
2. Avion (100 MW)
3. San Gabriel (420 MW)
As a result, the Luzon Grid experienced power supply deficiency of about 729 MW placing the Luzon Grid under Red Alert starting around 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The areas affected by the implementation of the manual load dropping included some parts of Metro Manila and the provinces of Batangas, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Zambales, Albay, Sorsogon and Camarines Sur.
As of 4:30 p.m. update, a unit of Lorenzo at 255MW and 100 MW Avion had already been restored. NGCP is currently assessing the root cause of the incident and restoring the areas affected by this incident.
