More than 100 students from Tanay National High School (TANAHIS) participated in the DOE-Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office’s ENEReady campaign held on 22 November 2019 at the TANAHIS Conference Room. 

MUNICIPALITY OF TANAY, RIZAL – The Department of Energy (DOE), through its Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office (CWPO), gathered the students of the Tanay National High School on 22 November for the year’s final ENEReady Information, Education and Motivation Campaign. 

“We are happy to have been given the opportunity to conduct one more ENEReady campaign before the year 2019 comes to a close. The DOE is actively trying to imbibe the importance of gender equality within the Filipino youth of today. We want them to believe that they could achieve anything, become someone they aspire to be, when they put their hearts into it,” Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said. 

With the theme, “Breaking Gender Stereotypes in the Energy Workforce,” the ENEReady team, composed of young petroleum, mechanical and electrical engineers, presented the challenging and exciting careers in the energy sector. Among the resource persons were Engr. Sarah Mae V. Tiu of MERALCO, Engr. Cassedy M. Lluisma of the DOE-Renewable Energy Management Bureau and Engr. Dan Emmanuel M. Monetalegre of the DOE-Energy Resource Development Bureau, who shared their experiences in the field, and practical lessons on how joining the energy sector in the future would enable them to serve the country. 

When asked about the types of problems they wish to solve, the students raised the issues of poverty, sexual orientation, and bullying. They also recognized the importance of gender equality as a concept, which values the needs and aspirations of individuals, regardless of gender. This includes giving everyone the same rights and opportunities, including participation in economic activities and decision-making.  

ENEReady is a continuing effort of the DOE under Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, under the supervision of the Gender and Development Focal Point System Chairperson Assistant Secretary Caron Aicitel E. Lascano.
