DOE Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III talks about the introduction of e-trikes in the Philippines during last week’s 5th International Electric Vehicle Technology Conference and Exhibition (iEVTech 2020) in Thailand.
In his virtual presentation, ASec. Pulido discussed the advantages of e-trikes in the Philippine context, particularly with regard to their increased safety features and compliance with environmental standards. He emphasized, however, that to ensure the successful mainstreaming of e-trikes and other types of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country, there must be sufficient local manufacturers capable of extending after-sales and maintenance support to EVs.
ASec. Pulido also highlighted the importance of establishing strong communication between the national government and future e-trike recipients, such as local government units and the e-trike drivers themselves.
A solid collaboration between the Government and the e-trike beneficiaries, Asec. Pulido stressed, will ensure the successful implementation of the project and boost the introduction of all types of EVs in the Philippines.
iEVTech was held from 23-26 September 2020. The event virtually gathered members of international governments and transportation sector stakeholders to exchange ideas on the latest trends and developments in the EV industry.
