MANILA - Frontline officers of the Department of Energy (DOE) braved the stormy weather to empower energy consumers during the commemoration of Philippine Independence on 12 June at the Rizal Park.
Under the stewardship of Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, the DOE continues to strengthen its focus on consumer empowerment through tireless information dissemination activities.
The DOE joined various government agencies on Tuesday and conducted interactive information, education and communication (IEC) campaigns. DOE's IEC campaign this year focused on "Energy Safety Practices and Efficiency Measures."
Despite the heavy downpour, around 160 individuals visited the DOE booth and listened to the lectures conducted by the Department’s employees.
The IEC was led by the DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB) Senior Science Research Specialist (Sr. SRS) Arcelie Pascua, who led discussions on consumer efficiency tips and responsible handling of liquefied petroleum gas products. OIMB Sr. SRS Lovely Miranda, on the other hand, provided a more detailed session on safety tips for liquid fuels (i.e., gasoline, diesel and kerosene).
Talks on energy conservation opportunities were also conducted by Energy Utilization Management Bureau SRS II Crizaldo G. Santos, energy labeling for household appliances by Energy Research and Testing Laboratory Services SRS II Romel C. Perez, and consumer empowerment through basic consumer rights and responsibilities by Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office SRS II Christian Joyce Cuy.
The DOE Gender and Development–Focal Point System spearheaded the IEC.
