DOE to Provide 164 Gen Sets to Yolanda-Hit Areas

(Taguig City) The Department of Energy (DOE) already started the deployment of its power generator sets (gensets) to help the victims in the Typhoon Yolanda-hit areas.

The DOE distributes these gensets in an effort to provide an immediate source of electricity in the affected provinces. Each genset has a capacity of 2 to 3 kilovolts ampere (kva), enough to power lights of about 50 households.

Thirty (30) gensets have already been deployed to Roxas City, Capiz yesterday. An additional 60 small gensets for Leyte province, 30 for Eastern Samar, and 15 for Western Samar are awaiting deployment within this week.

Other power deficient areas targeted for genset deployment in the coming days include Iloilo (10), Masbate (4), Coron, Palawan (5), and Bantayan, Cebu (8).

In addition, the DOE also provided 2 gensets to the Department of Health for continued provision of electricity in their medical operations and facilities amid the devastated areas.

The DOE is in close coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the loading of the gensets in the C130 plane for transport to the said areas.
