Calapan, Mindoro – Nagtungo si Department of Energy (DoE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi sa Mindoro upang personal na resolbahin ang nangyayaring rotating brownouts sa probinsya at dito ay siniguro niyang mayroong sapat na power supply sa bansa sa kasalukuyan.

 

“You just look at the PEP (Philippine Energy Plan) and included in that is the demand and supply outlook, where we are not only looking at election time. What we stated there is there is enough power (during the May 2022 elections),” saad ni Cusi sa isang virtual press briefing.

 

Noong nakaraang linggo, sinabi naman ni Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella na base sa outlook ng Energy department, mayroong “sufficiency of supply, with no yellow alerts, and no power interruptions” sa pagdaraos ng May 2022 national elections kung ikukunsidera ang initial base case scenario.

 

Samantala, ipinangako naman ni Cusi na mareresolba na nila ang problema ng power shortage sa Mindoro sa loob ng isang buwan.

 

“We are making sure the island grid, the island provinces, are also taken care of. I brought (with me) here the offices of national government—NPC (National Power Corporation) and NEA (National Electrification Administration)—to address the off-grid requirements of our island provinces,” sabi ni Cusi.

 

Ang pahayag ng Energy secretary ay kasunod ng kanyang meeting sa mga opisyal at kinatawan ng Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (ORMECO) at makikipagpulong rin siya sa Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO) at Lubang Electric Cooperative (LUBECO) upang solusyunan ang mga power situation sa nasabing probinsya.

 

Sa kaso ng OMECO sa Occidental Mindoro, sinabi ni Cusi na isinaayos nila ang power supply ng probinsya sa pamamagitan ng pagdagdag ng 4MW capacity.

 

Sa ngayon, tinitingnan pa ng kagawaran kung posibleng mai-loop ang mga power systems ng ORMECO at OMECO “so the entire island will have a solution” sa problema nito sa power supply.

 

Inihayag rin ng Energy secretary na binigyan niya ang NPC ng deadline upang maresolba ang 25MW power supply shortage ng ORMECO.

 

“Mindoro can expect an improved power service by September 30,” sabi ni Cusi.

 

Paliwanag pa niya, ang NPC ay tutulong upang makapagbigay ng dagdag na power supply sa probinsya kasabay nang isinasagawang contracting ng ORMECO sa tulong ng NEA.

 

Ayon pa kay Cusi, layunin ng kagawaran na maabot ang 100 percent electrification sa 2022.

 

“We are ensuring that household electrification is expedited. That’s why we are visiting provinces in off-grid areas. We are making sure the commitment of this administration is met when our term ends in June (2022),” sabi ng kalihim.

 

Inatasan rin ng DoE secretary ang NPC na umalalay sa shortfall sa supply sa September 20 at pinamamadali na niya rin sa ORMECO ang procurement ng supply shortage “in accordance with Competitive Selection Process policy within six months”.

 

Ang TRANSCO naman ay inatasan na maging System Operator na siyang magbibigay ng transparency sa pagbibigay-serbisyo ng kuryente sa probinsya.

 

“We need to work together in addressing the total electrification program,” saad ni Cusi.

 

Samantala, siniguro ng DOE na mayroong sapat na supply ng kuryente sa bansa kahit pa mayroong naka-schedule na preventive maintenance sa gas field mula October 2 hanggang 22 ngayong taon.

 

“As far as the months of September, October--even up to February (next year)--we have sufficient power, we have more than enough reserves,” saad ni Fuentebella.

 

Tinitingnan rin ng kagawaran ang pagkakaroon ng dagdag na power mula sa 668MW GNPower Dinginin na inaasahang magsisimula ng operasyon sa third quarter ng taong ito.

 

Dagdag ng ahensya, dalawang liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities ay inaasahang magsisimula na rin ng operasyon sa susunod na taon.
