BatanGAS CITY: Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi leads the groundbreaking and time capsule laying ceremony together with First Gen Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Federico R. Lopez on Tuesday, 28 May at the First Gen Clean Energy Complex, Batangas City.
Joining the Energy Chief during the event (L-R) were House Energy Committee Chairman Lord Allan Velasco, First Gen President and Chief Operating Officer Francis Giles Puno,Senate Energy Committee Chairman Sherwin Gatchalian, and Japanese Minister for Economic Affairs Makoto Iyori.
BATANGAS CITY – Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Receiving Terminal of First Gen (FGen) Corporation on Tuesday (28 May) at the FGEN Clean Energy Complex.
Energy Secretary Cusi said, “With this development, it can help us attain our long term energy security and sustainability. The establishment of the natural gas facility can further boost the economy of our country through local employment which will benefit the host community.”
The groundbreaking ceremony was marked by a traditional Japanese "Kagami Biraki”, a ceremony which showcased acts of samurai warriors, to welcome a new era in the Philippine energy sector. It is also a celebration of FGen Corp. and Tokyo Gas' fruitful partnership in attaining the milestones relative to the planned LNG Terminal Project - the completion of the significant pre-development work and the commencement of the next phase of the development of the project.
On 5 December 2018, FGen Corp. signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. to take a 20% participating interest in the FGen LNG Project.
Sec. Cusi also underscored that the groundbreaking is "bringing us closer in realizing our aspiration to develop our natural gas industry and transform the country as a regional LNG hub, as well as providing secure and clean energy to our people.”
Also present in the event were DOE Officials Undersecretary Donato D. Marcos, Assistant Secretary Leonido J. Pulido III, Assistant Secretary Redentor E. Delola together with Senate Energy Committee Chair Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian, House Energy Committee Chair Cong. Lord Allan Velasco, First Gen Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Federico R. Lopez, Tokyo Gas Senior Managing Executive Officer and Global Business Division Chief Executive Kunio Nohata, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Jonathan Russell, Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, Batangas City Mayor Beverly Rose Dimacuha, and Japanese Minister for Economic Affairs Makoto Iyori.
