TAGUIG CITY - Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi welcomed support from the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and the One Meralco Foundation (OMF), as the nation continues to grapple with the Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Department of Energy (DOE) received an initial donation of 200 rapid test kits (RTKs) from OMF, the corporate social responsibility arm of Meralco, at the agency’s headquarters yesterday (8 July). OMF has offered to donate 10,000 RTKs to the DOE to bolster the government’s national action plan to Test, Trace and Treat (Task Force T3).
“We are very grateful for Meralco and its corporate social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation’s support during these trying times. Thank you, Meralco and OMF, for your significant contribution. These RTKs would definitely go a long way in ensuring that our personnel are safe and healthy, as we continue to provide the unhampered delivery of energy goods and services.” Secretary Cusi expressed.
The Energy Chief also stated that the current health crisis highlights the importance of public-private cooperation in strengthened COVID-19 response efforts.
A Ceremonial Turnover is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks to mark the successful completion of the donation.
DOE Assistant Secretary Robert B. Uy, together with Energy Policy and Planning Bureau Director Jesus T. Tamang received the RTKs from OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayo and Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga.
