NAGA CITY—Upon the instruction of Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi to check on the power restoration efforts in the aftermath of a series of natural calamities in the Bicol Region, Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella yesterday visited Camarines Sur and met with the teams directly involved in the activities.
“Power, as a key element to kick start the economic activity in the area, must be restored as soon as possible. I asked Undersecretary Fuentebella to visit the areas devastated by the typhoons and to look into the challenges that may hinder the power restoration,” Secretary Cusi said.
To start the visit, Undersecretary Fuentebella, who is also the DOE Spokesman, looked into the Naga Substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) where he was informed that power restoration efforts in the entire Region V is in full swing.
During his meeting with the representative of NGCP, Undersecretary Fuentebella underscored the importance of the company, being the power system operator of the country. He mentioned that the NGCP should be ready to give power to the distribution utilities (DUs) and to ensure reliability of the power.
Undersecretary Fuentebella then proceeded to check on the status of power restoration in CASURECO II (Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative II). In his meeting with the officials, Undersecretary Fuentebella expressed his gratitude for the dedication of its officials and their linemen in targeting 100% household restoration at the soonest possible time. To date, household restoration of CASURECO II stood at 92%.
While in Bicol, Undersecretary Fuentebella took the opportunity to likewise grace the send-off ceremony of CASURECO II to the Task Force Kapatid contingent of Region I (Peninsula Electric Cooperative/PENELCO I and III, Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative/CENPELCO, Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative/ISECO and Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative/INEC) that assisted the franchise area in the restoration of power.
“The entire energy family is working round the clock to restore power in the areas affected by the Super Typhoon Rolly and aggravated further by Typhoon Ulysses. Christmas is nearing and we cannot afford to leave Filipino families to celebrate it without power,” Undersecretary Fuentebella quoted Secretary Cusi as saying.
Undersecretary Fuentebella is set to visit other electric cooperatives in the region in the succeeding days.
